Swing for Skin
This June, a wonderful event is happening in aid of a great cause. Swing for Skin is taking place on the 4th of June, the tea dance spectacular is taking place on HMS Belfast, a great venue for starters! Tickets cost £30 in advance and £35 on the door which include two free drinks, food, a vintage hair and make-up session and a tour of the ship all in aid of charity DEBRA UK a medical charity which funds research and support services for people who suffer from the skin disorder Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).
EB creates extreme sensitivity of the skin, which means that even light friction causes blistering and shearing of the skin. EB is a genetic condition which can affect sufferers from birth. Swing for Skin will help to raise funds for patient support, awareness and early diagnosis and to support research to try and find cures and successful treatments and therapies.
I love events like this, they’re jolly and give you a chance to un-wind (or wind-up your springs for a good dance) at your pleasure. To do it in a good cause like Swing for Skin just makes that experience all the sweeter as it really supports the value of community that is part of the appeal of a vintage lifestyle.
Swing for Skin is a great chance for the vintage community to come together, strut our best stuff and know that all we’re doing is not only making us feel great, it’s making a difference to someone else too. Your ticket will help the charity pay for travelling nurses, respite care, clinics and equipment for sufferers, as well as assurance that their condition is being researched and that DEBRA UK is working as hard and fast as possible to improve treatments and one day help to find a cure.
There will also be a raffle on the night with prizes from Lulu Guinness, Helen Rochfort, Hotel Chocolat, BLOOM Gin, Lilly Lewis Millinery and more. DEBRA UK has already helped children with the RDEB form of EB to live lives where they are no longer frail, underweight and malnourished. Come along to Swing for Skin and help DEBRA UK make even more lives better.
