Retro Festival

There is a hot vintage festival kid on the block called Retro Festival. The line up has been announced and tickets are now on sale. The event will be held at White Waltham Airfield, Berkshire from 10 – 12 August 2012.

Previously known as The Royal Berkshire Festival of Wings, Wheels, Speed & Steam and now in its 6th year, the 3 day event is set to be the biggest and best yet! It promises an authentic experience including THREE live music and entertainment stages, some of the very best acts in UK vintage and Rock n Roll, hundreds of classic and vintage cars, caravans, military vehicles and steam engines, live flying displays and The Wall of Death.

There will be a large selection of vintage traders and brands selling some of the very best the UK has to offer in vintage and Rock n Roll clothing and home wear, craft sellers, artisans and local produce sellers. For those who want to fully immerse themselves in the experience there will be glamping and camping, including a huge vintage beauty salon and barbershop to maintain the glam and polished look, and a family fun day with lots to entertain the children.

Retro Festival 2012 is the authentic UK vintage, rock n roll and rockabilly music, motors and fashion festival and attracts a wonderful mix of vintage lovers, forties enthusiasts, rockabilly’s, mods, hepcats, lindy hoppers, boppers, and jivers as well as the general public and hundreds of classic and vintage automobile owners and enthusiasts. There will be something for everyone – in recent years there has been a tangible mainstream shift towards vintage, with people from all walks of life consciously embracing a “make do & mend” lifestyle due to factors including the mood for austerity and the creation of high profile vintage festival by designers Wayne & Geraldine Hemingway. It shows no signs of abating.

Musical line up.

There will be three stages including the Scarlet Ballroom, a huge temporary pavilion Ballroom that will be created especially for the festival and will transport the audience to a 1930s Shanghai Ballroom complete with chandeliers, cocktails, big bands, burlesque, comedy and dancing. It will give festival goers the chance to dress in their black tie finest within a festival.

There will also be a homage to the “Ricky Tick“, the famous and influential 1960s rhythm & blues club which was host to many culturally important acts such as The Rolling Stones, and The Who. Each stage will feature a full line up of exciting acts over 3 days and 2 nights with music that has been carefully selected and curated by experts in this area including Molly Marriott, daughter of Steve Marriott of The Small Faces and Martin Fuggles one of the original “Ricky Tick” DJ’s. Martin played vinyl at The Golden Piano which will be remembered by Ricky Tick Fans as the place where the Dj’s set up their decks. The line up includes Chris Farlow, Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band and Simon Townshend.

The Black Hangar stage promises a truly MONSTER line up, offering some of the best Rock N Roll the UK has to offer and will be running all day every day!

Friday Night kicks off with The Jim Jones Revue as our headliners, a cross between Jerry Lee Lewis and Marilyn Manson. Living legends and Rock n Roll Hall of Fame inductees The Jets, those crazy young rockabilly upstarts The Ceazars and the fast and dirty sounds of Jack Rabbit Slim.

Saturday night features headliner Big Boy Bloater and the Limits, up and coming vintage music star of the future Si Cranstoun, gorgeous young things The Lady Killers, Jake Allen, Derriere, and the coolest Johnny Cash tribute on our shores, Cash.

Sunday and the stage lights up with Greggy G, Berni Woods and the Forest Fires,  Rock n Roll DJ’s, dance displays and the Retro Festival’s first ever annual “ Battle of the best Amateur UK Elvis” competition.
